Washington Woods is a diverse school that serves students from all economic and cultural backgrounds.  It is one of only three Title I schools in Westfield, meaning that twenty-eight percent of students qualify for free and reduced lunch, and many more are just slightly above that qualification.  Therefore, PTO funds are vital to ensuring that all students have a robust academic experience.  Funds raised from will support literacy and math programs and support the school’s Leader In Me certification/curriculum, a program that helps create well-rounded learners by developing the whole-person and preparing students to become life-ready leaders.  One of the literacy programs used at Washington Woods is Lexia Core5.  Results from a study of over 100,000 students in the United States during the 2016-2017 school year indicates that the Lexia Core5 program helped close the reading gap for 89% of students performing below grade level within two school years.  This type of program is essential to providing our school’s diverse population with the instruction and support they need to not only achieve in school, but to be confident in their abilities as they move through life.  Our hope is that students leave Washington Woods not only having become better students, but overall better human beings that have executive functioning skills in all aspects of life.  We believe every child in our building can be a leader and that it takes finding the right opportunities that allow students to unleash their leadership potential.
Our board is made up of a diverse group of parents who all share the desire to serve Washington Woods families, students, and faculty.  The Executive board meets once a month to discuss needs, financials, and upcoming events. Our long term goal is to leave a legacy that is well organized and easy to navigate to allow parents to transition in and out with ease.  If you are interested in possibly learning a board (no commitment necessary) Please email Washingtonwoodspto@gmail.com with your areas of interest, no experience needed.
